design

We receive artworks from talented people and help them developing their ideas. You are free to print or not with us, it's up to you. When it comes to graphic design, we do everything related to printed matter (publications, flyers, posters...), visual identity and advertisement.

printing

RISO Printer-Duplicator is a stencil printer designed mainly for high-volume photocopying, duplicating and printing. We are using a Riso SF 9350 machine and you can print posters, business cards, brochures, publications or any other printed matter material. If you think your project suits Riso technique you should try our services!

paper specifications

Printable Area: 291 x 413mm
Paper Weight: 46g to 250g
Paper size: 100x148 mm to 310x432 mm
Riso printers can only print on uncoated paper.

paper in storage

Munken: Kristall, Lynx, Pure
Nautilus
Please, check with us which weights we have available. Have in mind that we might need to order paper to complete the production of your work and it can take some days.

available colours

█ yellow – Yellow U
█ fluorescent Pink – 806 U
█ bright Red – 185 U
█ green – 354 U
█ blue – 3005 U
█ burgundy – 7419 U
█ black – Black U

There are no limit for the number of colours used, but please have in mind the ink saturation in the paper. We work with 24 hour interval between each printed colour. In case of dense and large areas, it can take longer – this to reduce ink transfer/drag/smudge marks.

opacity

Riso inks are not 100% opaque which allows them to be easily blended into making new colours and variants. This is considered as an advantage when you are developing a design that uses a third colour that can be made out of combing two colours.

expression

There are 2 main expression in Riso: halftone and grain touch.

halftones

This expression shows in a grid like organised dots. The risograph machine automatically processes greyscale images and applies a halftone screen with customizable LPI and angles. If you have a specific preference, please indicate the LPI number when submitting your job. If you have a customised halftone screen, or a dither pattern, that you want to apply in printing, you should then make your image with that halftone and export it as a 600 DPI Bitmap file.

grain touch

Here the images are represented by unorganised very fine dots. It appears to be a more organic expression.

conditioners

The risograph doesn't produce perfect results as an offset or laser printer. Its unpredictability and messiness is its charm!

registration

Because each colour has to be printed separately (meaning that the paper has to go through the machine a number of times) there will always be a degree of mis-registration when printing several colours. The most interesting designs can be those that take this in consideration when using Riso technique. Using bleed and trapping is something to bring into your design in order to make it work.

feed marks & double sided marks

The machine uses rubber tires to feed the paper into the press so you should expect print marks, especially when printing with more than one colour or double sided (even with 24 hour drying intervals). But most of the times it is possible to (easily) rub it off with an eraser.

ink transfer

There will be always ink transfer when pages with heavy ink come from the printer and get stacked on top of each other. The final artwork also takes time to completely dry, sometimes one month or more so keep this in mind when ordering your Riso prints.

file format

All files must come in PDF format, with images and text in grayscale with crop, registration and bleed marks. If more than one colour, you should mention in the title the colour to be printed with. (Ex. Poster_A_blue.pdf, Poster_A_green.pdf)

text and shapes

When exporting text and line art keep them as vectors and do not rasterise them. All type and solid shapes must be set to RGB BLACK (R:0 G:0 B:0). Don't use Photoshop for text layout.

colour space and transparency

The document 'transparency blend space' must be changed from the default CMYK to greyscale.

binding

We offer a variety of different finishings and bindings. Some are made using a third party. Here are a few: Saddle Stitched, Side Stitched, Loop Stitched, Sewn Bound, Perfect Bound, Tape Bound, Wire Bound
